Joshua Stein PLLC represented the developer of a FedEx Ground distribution facility in Long Island City, which breaks ground in February 2012. Developer SunCap Property Group signed a ground lease with an affiliate of Robert Zirinsky Associates, owner of the site. Joshua Stein PLLC negotiated the ground lease for SunCap, as well as SunCap's arrangements with FedEx Ground. Joshua Stein will speak about his experience launching and running a solo practice when he participates as a speaker and panelist at the ACREL (American College of Real Estate Lawyers) Winter Meeting, to be held in Las Vegas on March 10, 2012. ACREL Fellow Stein will join other Fellows on the panel, Stacking the Deck in Your Favor: Responding to Seismic Shifts in Your Real Estate Practice. They will discuss market realities and explore strategies commercial real estate lawyers use when changing their practice formats.

On May 3, 2012, Joshua Stein will speak at the ABA Real Property Symposium as part of the Hospitality, Timesharing and Common Interest Developments Group. On January 23-24, 2012, Joshua Stein served as faculty chair for the 12th consecutive year of Practising Law Institute's Commercial Real Estate Financing seminar. Held in New York City, the program explored how new lower valuations, reduced cash flow, and distress throughout the economy continue to affect commercial real estate borrowers and lenders, and the legal issues their counsel must handle. Among the topics covered were: 

- Securitization today - state of the market and projections? 

- How financial industry "regulatory reform" will affect commercial real estate lending and securitization 

- Lender’s due diligence and strategy for troubled loans

- Common issues and problems in dealing with existing intercreditor agreements

- Important bankruptcy and loan enforcement cases decided in the current downturn - and how they will drive tomorrow's deal structures

U.S. News & World Report included Joshua Stein PLLC in its 2011-2012 list of "Best Law Firms." The list is based on evaluations from clients and from peer reviews of leading attorneys in their field. The findings were published in the magazine's November 10, 2011 issue. 

On November 15, 2011, Joshua Stein chaired a panel of executives in the fields of commercial real estate lending, portfolio lending, and commercial mortgage brokerage lending at the 2011 NYC Real Estate Expo, held at Columbia University. The panel, titled Navigating Today's Commercial Real Estate Lending Troubled Waters, assessed the weaker and stronger market segments, the horizon for new foreclosure activity, and the current lending process, among other current topics.

The October 25, 2011 issue of the National Real Estate Investor quotes Joshua Stein in its article on misappropriations by managing partners in real estate joint ventures. In the piece, "Robbing Peter to Pay Paul: Fraud in Real Estate JVs," Stein discusses what can happen after the older generation "passes the torch" in partnerships created 20 to 30 years ago. 

Joshua Stein was the subject of "The 30-Minute Interview" in the Square Feet column of  the October 16, 2011 New York Times Sunday real estate section (attached below). Stein discusses his move from partner at one of the world's largest law practices to his eponymous firm and shares his assessment of the current lending market. 

Super Lawyers Magazine named Joshua Stein one of the Top Ten Lawyers in New York State. The list is based on ratings by peers of their specialty and by independent research. The Top 10 and the Top 100 lists were published in the Sunday, October 2, 2011 New York Times Magazine section, attached below.

One year after Joshua Stein made his move from mega-firm partnership to solo practice, New York Super Lawyers profiled Joshua as the subject of the publication's cover story in October 2011.  The article describes why Joshua made his move; how it has worked out; and the career path that led him there.

When Joshua Stein's daughters started college (five years apart), each received a summary of Joshua's advice on college and on life after college.  Business writer Jeff Haden saw a copy, and published it as part of his regular column for BNET.com, the CBS Interactive Business website.
